An iPhone 7 Plus Locked to Owner is a leftover from the first dual-camera Portrait era. 2016 billboards sold fake studio lighting on a Plus. Those ads still echo in used listings that attach a folder of blurry-background shots and call the phone clean. Portrait Mode was a camera launch. It was not a new way to prove the Apple Account is gone.
The 7 Plus is also the body people confuse with later Plus and Max phones when a cheap case hides the camera stack. Two lenses on a Home button slab date it. They do not loosen Find My.
Portrait Mode was a camera launch, not a lock change
Buyers who remember the 2016 keynote still treat Portrait samples as a feature checklist. If the album has depth shots, they assume the phone was in daily use and therefore signed out. Daily use is how binds linger. The person who took those portraits may have been on a family Apple ID they never controlled.
Ask for a live erase, not a zip file of old portraits. If the seller says they already wiped it at home so you cannot open Photos, they wiped it so you cannot open Settings either.
Two lenses, one Apple Account
Dual camera on the Plus was new. Activation was not. Finder restores, SIM swaps, and a clean portrait of the back of the phone leave the same owner record in place. The telephoto module does not keep a second iCloud identity you can discard.
If the lock screen info icon says iPhone 7, you have the single-camera compact. Switch to iPhone 7 locked to owner instead of following Plus camera notes.
Old Portrait ads versus a live setup
Marketplace albums for a 7 Plus often steal Apple's original Portrait stills or reuse another listing. Look at the hands, the room, and the IMEI. Mismatched lighting between the camera shots and the lock screen photo is a common swap.
Release still starts with the account owner in iCloud Find. If you bought this Plus new, recover that Apple Account and use HT201365 as the official map. A Portrait printout is not proof of purchase.
Submit the 7 Plus below. Membership is $7.99 per month. The guide is educational. You operate the Plus. A later large Home button body is iPhone 8 Plus locked to owner.
