A kiosk in a Houston strip mall took a $180 deposit and told a buyer they could click Camera Control into diagnostic mode until the iPhone 16 Pro locked to owner screen vanished. They held the new capacitive shutter, counted to ten, and asked for the rest of the cash. The Pro still sat on Hello and still named the original Apple Account. Camera Control is first-generation hardware on this phone. It is a shutter. It is not an unlock switch.
That script spread because 16 Pro is the first year the camera button existed at all. Buyers had no older Pro to compare. Shops filled the gap with a story that sounded like a hidden Apple menu. A18 Pro and the titanium frame got woven in as if faster silicon or a lighter rail could override Find My. They cannot.

USB-C can load a restore. The next activation still queries Apple. If Find My is on, the owner screen returns.
If your phone has no Camera Control ridge, you are not holding a 16 Pro. The base model is iPhone 16 locked to owner. The larger Pro is iPhone 16 Pro Max locked to owner.
A18 Pro and titanium do not punch a hole in Find My
A18 Pro is a faster chip. Titanium is a lighter frame than the old stainless Pros. Both are reasons this model still sells used. Neither is a privilege bit on Apple's activation servers. The server stores an Apple Account against this IMEI and serial. Setup reads that record. The lock screen is the result. Latest iOS can also flag a camera module taken from another locked Pro. That parts warning is separate. It does not create a Camera Control back door, and it does not remove the setup bind.
Apple's own note is HT201365. There is no Pro-only exception for first-year Camera Control.
Scripts kiosks repeat because the button is new
- They point at Camera Control and call it a service key Apple hid from owners.
- They take a deposit so you will not walk the Pro to another counter for a second opinion.
- They restore the phone, which only proves the cable works, then ask for the balance.
- They vanish when the same account prompt returns after the restore.
